Dining at The Ashbrook Hotel
This review has to do with the dining experience at The Ashbrook Hotel as I was not an overnight guest (but will be next time I am on Bourbon Trail near Frankfort, KY area!). I really wanted to see this hotel, but due to my travel schedule I wasn’t able to work out an overnight stay that allowed me proper time to enjoy the place. However, I made an effort to drop in for a dining experience (Sunday Brunch) and oh my, was I so glad that I did! The menu is a modest one, unique to the atmosphere of an old southern style home, but the quality of the food, price, taste, presentation and service was phenomenal! TJ was our waiter and he was very friendly and experienced. I was part of a party of three (3) and each of us ordered something different. The portions was far enough to fill any stomach. The price was modest and reasonable. The atmosphere was unique and it made me wish I could have come back for a dinner! The location is where you can park and eat, then walk right into the old town area. Overall, it’s just a great experience and I will be returning there the very next time I am in the area. Kudo's to the staff and ownership on a great dining experience.

Beware
We stayed at the Ashbrook with three other couples for 4 nights and we were all dissatisfied. The location was great and the property was clean, but there was no staff on site. We were issued a key code in an email that asked us to let them know if we needed anything. But no one responded to our requests for 48+ hours. There was coffee service in the room for one morning but no tea or hot water and no coffee or tea available in the lobby. No microwave and no refrigerator. Due to overbooking, our king room was “upgraded” to a suite with two queens. It was an attic room with ceilings and beams so low that my husband had to constantly stoop to avoid hitting his head.

Beautiful Old Manor House But with No Amenities
My wife and I decided to stay in Frankfort because the Kentucky Genealogy Library is there. But unfortunately the day we arrived it was closed. Oh well. We chose the Ashford because it looked nice and quaint. What we did not realize is that the hotel is currently unstaffed, so we were completely on our own to figure things out.
They did send us a code for the door to both the main entrance and our room. All well and good there. Our room was spacious but cold because the hotel was not being heated. There was a heater in the bathroom, which we did turn on. But it only provided a modicum of heat. The bathroom was also spacious and had a very nice shower, which we took advantage of. We used the Keurig in the room for coffee. Unfortunately we did not find the Wi-Fi password, which was on a small card on the coffee cart, until the end of our stay. We had a long drive ahead of us, so we left early to get a jump on the day.
We had one Kerfuffle with our room bill. There was an upgrade charge to our room, which was never mentioned in our booking. I challenged that extra charge and it was eventually removed, but it took several days to resolve. Quite aggravating.
On the positive side, the location is good. Parking is adequate. Other than one other person, we were the only quests staying here. Very quiet.

A meticulously restored mansion made into a great boutique hotel
This elegant boutique hotel should be on your bucket list if you are visiting or passing through Frankfort, KY. Careful attention has been paid to preserving the unique architectural features of this historic mansion, while adding the necessary touches to make it comfortable and relevant for today. The result is a charming mix of history and modern convenience. The onsite restaurant deserves a 5 star rating for delicious entrees and some special and unique appetizers. Can’t wait to come back!!
