Disappointing Experience at Berlin Marriott Hotel
Upon arrival, i have a small issued during check in which trisha resolved quickly and professionally, she was the only highlight of our experience. However, another male staff named Tristian was notably unfriendly when responding to our enquiry which setting a negative tone for the stay.
The room view was extremely disappointing as it faced the office building and we had to keep the curtain closed to maintain any sense of privacy.
Only 1 bottle of mineral water provided during the entire stay. When i called reception to request for more and i was told additional bottle would be chargeable. This is unacceptable, especially 3 stars hotels offer better service in this regard.
We ordered in-room dining on our first night - the Tagliolini bolognese. It arrived about 25 min but was very dry, hard and unappetizing. When i called reception to raised my concern, i was confirmed its freshly cooked and no apology offered. Eventually, the replacement sent but it was a wrong order - Spaghetti Bolognese. By that point i was too frustrated to continue dealing with it. The food tray was left outside our door, and shockingly, it remained there for over 24 hrs. Apparently no one card to remove it both housekeeping and in-room dining.
The hotel cleanliness is very disappointing too, the lift carpet was filthy throughout our stay and appeared not to have been cleaner even once.
At checkout, no one asked about our stay or engage with us at al, not even a basic courtesy to check on our stay experience.
As i looked at Mr Marriott’s portrait in the lobby, i couldnt help but felt the current state of the hotel condition is not something he would be proud of. The lack of hospitality, cleanliness, attention to details is extremely disappointing and went below the standard should expect from the Marriott Brand.

Mixed feelings
The first day I doubted whether I had checked into the right hotel. The website and the Marriott app show beautiful pictures of a very spacious, luxurious Chronobar (Lobby/Lounge/Bar), from restaurant Midtown Grill and restaurant The Big Dog. In addition, reference is made to bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity, which appear to be in the adjacent Ritz-Carlton if further search is carried out.
Due to a major renovation, that spacious Chronobar is completely screened with high wooden walls, leaving little space at the reception and the entrance to the elevators. The Big Dog appeared to be accessible only from the outside, the street side and there was a small space set up as a bar, lounge. Based on the photos on the website and in the app, I asked what exactly was going on. After all, nothing about a renovation is mentioned on the website. Eventually, the reception and restaurant also need to be renovated.
Furthermore, for 2 days, in connection with the visit of a foreign head of state, there were very strict security measures around the hotel. Roads blocked and lots of police on their feet. The second day the hotel was not even accessible for some time. The hotel was in zone red, with the highest level of security. I've found this a little uncomfortable.
In addition, the Marriott Berlin Hotel is the base of the Viking Cruise organization. Have a private desk etc. On the Friday night during my stay I had thought I could enjoy a drink quietly in the small room that is set up as a bar. Until the group of Viking guests filled the entire space around me and the Viking Cruise manager with headphone gave a 20-minute presentation about the trip. When I asked at the end why he hadn’t taken a meeting room in the hotel for that, so that the non-Viking hotel guests can enjoy their drink in peace, he exploded and became verbally very aggressive. Firstly, I have found this to be very unprofessional and secondly threatening.
Was nothing right? Yes, I do!
- I had a nice, spacious panorama room on the 8th floor with great views
- bathroom fully equipped, with an excellent walk-in rain shower
- location of the hotel is excellent, 100 m from Potsdamer Platz, with U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations on the doorstep.
- particularly enjoyed the times I ate at the Midtown Grill restaurant. Thanks to manager Kader and Oumahr (Sylla) for the excellent service.
- grateful use of Valet Parking
- thank you to Julian in the hotel bar, for his excellent service
I have shared my experiences both during my stay and during check-out with the reception staff. For the inconveniences I have received compensation for which I thank you very much. I think when all the renovations are complete, the Marriott Berlin Hotel will be a more than excellent hotel for a pleasant stay in Berlin. Only I was there at the wrong time.

Just a Hotel
Our room & bed are comfy & pleasant but no stand out here. Try somewhere else.
Very disappointed. I researched & read reviews for 2 hours before selecting.
Think it's a cater to Americans hotel.
Add on note: barman was lovely

Thank you for your honest feedback. I’m truly sorry to hear that your experience fell short of expectations, especially with the room service and housekeeping – that’s certainly not the standard we aim to provide. It’s disappointing that the check-in felt impersonal and that some details, like the empty shower gel and unattended items, impacted your stay.
I’m glad to hear the room and bed were comfortable and that you had a positive interaction with the barman. Your comments about the overall atmosphere and service are very valuable, and I’ll make sure they’re shared with the team to improve future guest experiences.
Even though you were not satisfied with the service this time, it would be our pleasure to welcome you back and have the chance to demonstrate the quality of our service.
