Baby Moon At Makanda By The Sea
My wife and I spent 3 days at Makanda by the Sea for a baby moon and absolutely loved it. The resort itself is a tropical paradise, the view from the rooms overlooked the rainforest and ocean, and the staff were so kind. We ate at the restaurant, Arbol, and loved everything we tried. The octopus and lobster risotto were among our favorite meals. Andres was our waiter and he gave us a ton of information about things to go see in the area. They also have golf carts with drivers to drive you around the resort if you do have trouble walking. Thank you Samuel for all the rides. We also booked the couples massage which was so relaxing and the views again were incredible. Be sure to also visit Elias at the swim up saltwater pool, he was great to talk with and quite the bartender. We did see monkeys, macaws and many other animals at the resort.
We came in May and It was not too hot and only rained a little in the afternoons.
And if you really want to treat yourself get the Penthouse sweet. It was INCREDIBLE. All the other rooms looked amazing too.
Thank you to the Makanda staff for making this an amazing experience for us. We will be back soon!

Best Vacation Completion - 10 out of 10
We changed to this hotel super spontaneously and only discovered it by accident on site because the original hotel that was planned did not meet our expectations at all. At Makanda we were immediately warmly welcomed by Esteban who made us feel very good. The rooms, the service and especially the food in the restaurant are outstanding. We love good food - here 10 out of 10! Especially Andres and Simon have served us excellently. It made you feel welcome. The entire hotel has a real attention to detail. Everything is beautifully designed and very modern/stylish. Especially the pool is an eye-catcher. We are just thrilled and could not have spent our last days better. We will (hopefully) come back. Huge thanks to the hotel staff.

Makanda by the Sea: A True Paradise Experience
Makanda by the Sea is an unparalleled paradise. Every detail has been carefully considered — nothing is overlooked. My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and came back 2 years later for our “second honeymoon” because of how much we enjoyed it. It’s not just the stunning design of the rooms, pools, dining areas that sets this place apart, but the genuine kindness of the staff, who greet you by name at breakfast and chat with you by the pools as if you’re old friends.
A heartfelt thank you to the entire lovely team, especially Andres, who went above and beyond to make us feel at home. We truly enjoyed our deep and meaningful conversations with him — what a remarkable person!
One of the most magical parts of our stay was the natural setting. Every afternoon, usually between 2-4pm we’d watch families of monkeys swing through the trees right above us, and occasionally catch sight of a sloth. Moments like these made the experience feel surreal and beautifully connected to nature. The rooms were also spotless, cozy, and refreshed daily.
I wholeheartedly recommend Makanda by the Sea to any couple seeking a peaceful, romantic escape in paradise. We’re already dreaming of our return. This truly is the place to be ~

Amazing experience staying at Makanda in Costa Rica
The room was beautiful & very clean. The bed was comfortable & we enjoyed great sleep. The staff was top notch, the service was excellent. The servers were very professional & personable. We soaked in the beauty of the resort & look forward to returning to Makanda in the near future. Our experience was exceptional across the board, service, food, cleanliness, amenities...10 out of 10.

Personal Paradise in Manuel Antonio
Wow. Amazing property. Secluded and quiet (except for the howler monkeys which we loved). Lush surroundings and phenomenal views of the ocean. Our Ocean Club deluxe room was lovely. Very spacious with tremendous view of rain forest and ocean.
The private beach was very nice. Towels and beach chairs there as well as an attendant to help. Also a small bar with basic cocktails and beer. It’s a steep walk down to the beach but MAKANDA offers golf cart option. We walked down through the rain forest and took the cart back up
We saw (and) heard many monikers. Capuchin, squirrel and howlers. The capuchins visited our balcony. Also we saw toucans ans scarlet macaws from the pool terrace.
What was best though was the service. Attentive and very sociable. Everyone offered help and suggestions. Three though stood out. Elias the bartender at the Ocean Club Pool was outstanding. He offered many suggestions for things to do, places to eat and his mojitos were amazing. Roger and Simon at the Pool Terrace restaurant were also very very good. Friendly, attentive, Remembered our names right from the beginning. The other staff were also good. These three stood out. MAKANDA is lucky to have them.
We were there 20 years ago and it was lovely then. The changes, additions, and upgrades have made this a “Personal Paradise”.
We will surely be back soon.
