Charming Hotel in a Perfect Location

We just spent 8 days in Québec for the Winter Carnaval and were charmed by the Auberge Place D'Armes. The location was absolutely perfect. It was close to almost all of our favorite restaurants and close to the stairs/funicular to the lower town. We had a view of the Chateau Frontenac from our window and loved seeing that iconic building early in the morning, at night, and even during a blizzard!
The rooms were beautifully decorated which greatly enhanced the feeling of being immersed in a francophone culture. The beds were soft and comfortable. The shower had multiple jets and I wish we had those at home!
There is one entrance for the hotel and also for an adjacent restaurant, La Buchette. The restaurant was really good - we ate there the night of the blizzard and it was so nice to not have to go back out in the wintry weather.
If I could make one suggestion, it would be for the hotel to have a place to store luggage. It would have streamlined our arrival.
Virginie was especially helpful in obtaining a roll-away for our adult daughter when her flight was canceled and there were no more available rooms. Merci, Virginie! The price is very reasonable for the incomparable experience we had staying here. We can't wait to return!

Great, but DON'T try to take large cases to Attic rooms!!!

. Firstly DO NOT TAKE LARGE LUGGAGE TO ATTIC ROOMS! There are 3 sets of staircases and the last one is fairly narrow and steep!
Great location, right in middle of town. The room was lovely, spacious and clean. No view as such, very quiet. It could be argued it needed a teeny bit of love as the light fittings were abit loose and wobbly. But would stay there again.
Very helpful friendly staff.

Thank you for your detailed feedback! We're glad to hear you enjoyed the great location, spacious room, and the friendly staff. We completely understand your concern about the attic rooms and the stairs – we'll make sure to highlight this for future guests with large luggage. We'll also look into the light fittings to ensure everything is in top shape. We truly appreciate your input and would love to welcome you back again soon!

Soap dispenser in shower was snapped off and shower drain was not attached to the floor it would slide around leaving a hole large enough for your foot, leg and ankle to fall in. It was pretty dangerous someone could easily break a foot or leg depending on how far they trip into it.
This is a historic building it does not have an elevator, this was not a problem for me but anyone with mobility issues might want to look at the pictures of their stairs to decide if they can manage.
Not a great value for what you get, but better than many Canadian hotels in 2024.

In the heart of old town

Overall it was fine…but needs a bit of maintenance. Bed was hard, which my husband loved but I thought excessive. Caulk in bathroom needs attention and a curtain was ripped/fireplace didn’t work. Also during our stay, the room above sprung a “leak” which dripped down the wall of the bed and am sleep was disturbed by the drip, drip, drip. We understand issues happen of course but when it disturbs other guests, there should be some sort of compensation for the trouble.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're glad to hear that overall your stay was fine, but we’re truly sorry for the maintenance issues you encountered. We apologize for the discomfort caused by the bed and the fireplace not working. The leak from the room above is certainly not ideal, and we understand how that impacted your experience. We appreciate your understanding that things can sometimes go wrong, but we also recognize that this disrupted your stay. We will review our approach to handling such situations and ensure better communication and compensation for affected guests in the future. We hope to have the chance to welcome you back for a much improved experience.

I’ve been to Quebec City seven times and have always stayed at Auberge Place d’Armes. I absolutely love it! Everyone is so warm and welcoming. From Virginie at the front desk who is so helpful, to the waiters in the restaurant who provide friendly service, to Chahira who does a beautiful job cleaning the historic hotel, the staff once again made my stay memorable! Thanks everyone!
