Laidback

We stayed in the guest house side of things not the hostel..rooms were good..just make sure you get the pin code to get into the hostel side. We weren't given it I think a bit of miscommunication and couldn't get into main reception area in the morning and we were trying to leave early as camino walkers ..but rooms were clean etc..would stay again

Very disappointing! No more lounge/reception, but a narrow corridor. Avoid!

What a disappointment this year! The owner decided to convert the living/reception room into a bedroom. He has almost no room to sit and the delivery of the backpacks is in the hallway, so not much room to circulate. It was my 4th time at this hostel with my pilgrim groups and the last. Too bad to think of making more revenue cutting into services and losing loyal customers.

Damp and cold room, poorly equipped.

We booked a 3 bed room. The beds were damp and the room very cold. The room was too small to put our luggage and us in. The kitchen had no equipment to cook with. The facilities were filthy. It was the worst place we’ve stayed at on the Camino and expensive.

Horrible experience

I got there with a reservation previously made and confirmed on Booking. They told me to go to the cafe next to it and to talk to a certain person. I asked for that person, and nobody could answer me who that person was. I then insisted and told them I wanted to check-in in the hostel, so they finally told me to wait 15 minutes. I had to wait 1 hour instead, the lady from the hostel asked me if I had a reservation (this coming from the person who I've talked before by phone...), I told her yes I had, and she insisted that it was not possible. So I've just shown her the reservation on my mobile. She asked me to wait a bit more, and with this I had to wait almost 1 more hour. When she came back to me, she told me to go to the hostel with her, we got there, and she told me they were fully booked and I had to stay sleeping in the couch of the reception (image #2 of the slides), where they start working early and of course I would never stay sleeping in the couch of an hostel reception with everybody coming in and out, so what else can I say?...
Worst hostel experience of my life. This place doesn't deserve to actually exist. They are liars, manipulators and thieves.
Absolutely horrible experience., a definitely NOT TO GO place.

Disappointing!

Very disappointed that this hostel refused to refund my money when I cancelled 2 weeks in advance due to Covid. I had to cancel my entire trip and I reached out to each place I reserved. Even Booking.com said that they requested a refund. Hostel D'Avenida was the only hotel who refused to even partially refund me. They were not nice about it either. I had sent them several emails explaining my situation, and after taking about a week to respond, all they said was, "We don't refund." When I rebook my trip to Portugal, I definitely will not be staying there.
